mijn kot No. 2

The last few days have been crazy: finishing my lease and my studies, 2 weeks in Veenzuela and back to sign a new contract and start a new program in Antwerp. Moving in and out has been pretty stressful since I had no idea how many things I had and how difficult it was going to be to find a decent place to live in Leuven for under 500 euros per month. Leuven is getting more and more expensive every year and also more popular with international students. After going house-hunting with my friend Laura, she found a place right in thr center of the city. The winter is coming so less biking and more suffering with the cold and the rain so it was essential to find a good location. The place needed a lot of cleaning and scrubing but here I am all moved in after a week of hard work. There are plenty of things that could be in better conditions but just the location erases all my complaints.

Los últimos días han sido la locura: terminar los estudios y el contrato, 2 semanas en Venezuela y de vuelta a firmar otro contrato y empezar otro programa en Amberes. Mudarme ha sido bastante estresante ya que no tenia idea de la cantidad de cosas que tenia y ni de lo difícil que seria encontrar un lugar decente donde vivir en Lovaina por menos de 500 euros por mes. Me fui a buscar casa con mi amiga Laura y ella me encontró este lugar justo en el centro de la ciudad. Ya viene el invierno lo que significa menos bici y mas sufrimiento con la lluvia y el frío, así que era necesario encontrar un lugar bien ubicado. El lugar necesitaba bastante limpieza pero aquí estoy ya mudada después de ua semana de mucho trabajo. Todavía hay cosas con las que no estoy contenta pero a decir verdad la ubicación borra todas mis quejas.

tis the season. part 2

Tine and her family invited me to a christmas dinner in Overpelt, it was a very belgian experience with the super sweet grandma trying to have a conversation with me in dutch and lots of food with potatoes (what can be more belgian that potatoes?)and nice company. Tines aunt cooked a vegetarian meal for me which BTW was delicious - curry sauce FTW-. I like Tines family. They´ve all been very welcoming and they like drinking and getting together... 

Tina y su familia me invitaron a Overpelt para una cena de Navidad, fue una experiencia muy belga con la abuelita hermosa tratando de hablar conmigo en holandes y mucha comida con papas (que puede ser mas belga que la papa?) y buena compañia. La tia de Tina cocino un plato vegetariano para mi, que por cierto estaba delicioso, con curry!. Me gusta mucho la familia de Tina, todos han sido muy panas conmigo y les gusta beber y reunirse y compartir.

. i know this post is not very chronological...but the day after the xmas dinner in overpelt; tine, Astrid and I went bowling.it was sort of a bungalow resort with a tropical theme and heating everywhere...very weird. I broke a nail and lost (im the second player on the screen) but we had fun. it reminded me why i dont play sports...because i SUCK at them. hehe/ se que este post no es muy cronologico...pero el dia despues de la cena de Navidad de Overpelt, Tina, AStrid y yo nos fuimos a jugar bowling. Era como un resort de bungalows (cabañas) con un tema tropical y calefaccion por todos lados...muy raro. Me rompi una uña y perdi (soy el segundo jugador en la pantalla) pero nos divertimos al final. Me hizo recordar porque no juego deportes ni nada...por que soy la peor...jaja

A kot is basically a student residence without curfew and with all the advantages of living on your own in a regular apartment, here in Leuven almost every student lives in a place like mine. I love my kot cause it has high ceilingsm a brand new kitchen, its clean and it full of light and its on Brusselsestraatm a nice area and very well located, Here are some pics for you to see how it is like, I have more things now courtesy of Tine´s family - my belgian friend - / Un kot es basicamente una residencia estudiantil pero sin horarios y con todas las libertades de vivir en un apartamento, aca en Leuven casi todos los estudiantes viven en uno de esos. El mio me encanta porque esta en Brusselsestraat, es buena zona y esta bien ubicado. aca les dejo fotos para que vean como es. pero ahora tengo mas cosas que la familia de Tine -mi amiga belga- me han regalado.

Since I dont have blinds, im using post-its as a privacy screen and I use it as my to-do list. / Como no tengo cortinas, por el momento uso post-its para tener mas privacidad y aprovecho y anoto las cosas que tengo que hacer Finnegan my shopping bag is a strawberry
