My attempt to Xmas decoration

coverxmas

This year I decided to add some Xmas spirit to my little place. I went to a second hand shop here in Leuven called Spit to buy cheap and silly items for my room. I bought a christmas tree in the center and used the decoration that my friend Simon left when he went back to Canada. Here´s  the result, although I have a small cross stitchng project in mind ;)/Este año he decidido añadir un poco de espíritu de Navidad a mi pequeño lugar.

What I did (not to spend a lot of money):
-I bought some things in a second hand shop > cheap
-Used old things with new things, for example: the light blue bird is not a christmas accent but I used it anyway.
-Find things with a sense of humor, like the Happy New Year garland in German or the cheesy Xmas mugs.

My vintage guide to Belgium - The Atomium & Expo 58

coverexpo58

My favorite city landmark in the world is the Atomium of Brussels. It´s shiny, it´s big and it´s mid-century and it has a futuristic look! Whenever I get to see it, I smile. The Atomium was originally constructed for Expo '58, the 1958 Brussels World's Fair as the  main pavillion and icon of the event. It was designed by the engineer André Waterkeyn with interiors by architects André and Jean Polak, It´s 102 mts tall and it has nine 18 mts diameter stainless steel spheres to form the shape of a unit cell/ Mi icono de una ciudad favorito en el mundo es el Atomium de Bruselas.

The Atomium is open to the public and houses a permanent exhibition about the Expo 58 on two floors.
The interiors are a midcentury glory, from its stairs, to the elevator -the fastest in the world at the time- and decor. The Expo 58 exhibition includes photographs and models to illustrate the event.

What´s interesting is that The Atomium was not intended to survive beyond the 1958 World Fair but its popularity and success soon made it a landmark of the city/Lo que es interesante es que el Atomium no estaba destinado a sobrevivir más allá de la Feria Mundial de 1958, pero su popularidad y éxito pronto lo convirtieron en el símbolo de la ciudad.

THAT´S HOW THE EXPO LOOKED LIKE.

On 17th April 1958, the last universal world fair organised by Belgium was inaugurated on the Heysel site in Brussels. The Atomium has acquired 27 original or contemporary models representing different pavilions from Expo 58. These have been restored and created by Ghent University using archived documents to make sure the reconstructions were faithful to the originals/El 17 de abril de 1958, la última feria mundial universal organizada por Bélgica se inauguró en el sitio de Heysel, en Bruselas. Mid Century Fads in Todays World 1. MINISKIRT

miniskirt

Mary Quant went to the mod-immersed streets of London where men and women were pushing the boundaries of fashion and it was there where she decided to demostrate how sexy miniskirts could be. It´s important to remember that fashion in the 60s was also used as a way to express that they had their own voices and the mini skirt was revolutionary, an icon of rebellion./ Mary Quant fue a las calles de Londres que estaban inmersas con el mod y donde mujeres y hombres empujaron los limites de la moda y fue ahí mismo donde ella decidió demostrar cuan sexy podía ser la minifalda.
