curling it!

I wanted to try a Dita Von Teese inspired hairdo,just to give it a try. lately I´ve been experimenting with my hair a lot more because here in Belgium it´s very expensive to go to a hair salon so youtube has been my best friend since I´m here/ Quería probar un peinadito tipo Diva Von Teese, sólo para probar ya que últimamente he estado experimentando con el pelo muchísimo más que antes porque acá en Bélgica es muy caro ir al salón de belleza así que youtube se ha convertido en mi mejor amigo. 

I followed this tutorial and although it says its a Marilyn tutorial, the result is more Ditaish to me. I liked the result but it´s not the kind of thing I´ll do on a daily basis because it takes a long time and second, the next day your hair will be all frizzy but it´s nice to give it a try. The video was made by Cherry Dollface and it´s very well explained and simple to follow. She has someother tutorials worth watching.../ seguí este tutorial y aun cuando dice que es un "Marilyn", el resultado para mi se parece más al pelo de Dita. Me gustó el resultado pero no es la clase de cosas que se puede hacer a diario porque toma mucha tiempo y segundo, al día siguiente el pelo queda todo lleno de frizz pero vale la pena intentarlo. El video es de Cherry Dollface y lo explica muy bien y es fácil de seguir. Ella tiene otros tutoriales que también valen la pena ver...

Buda y Pest. Parte 2

On my second day in Budapest I went to the Terror Háza or The House of Terror. As I said before, I was interested in the whole communist era history and the museum contains exhibits related to the fascist and communist dictatorial regimes in 20th century Hungary and is also a memorial to the victims of these regimes, including those detained, interrogated, tortured or killed in the building. It is very interesting and so as not to make it boring, they mediatized the museum by including videos, music and lightning effects. Taking photos is now allowed but I managed take a few.../ En mi segundo día en Budapest fui a la Casa del Terror o Terror Háza. Como dije anteriormente me interesa la historia de la era comunista y el museo tiene exhibiciones relacionadas con los regímenes fascista y comunista en la Hungría del siglo XX, es también un memorial para las victimas de estos, incluyendo a quienes fueron detenidos, interrogados, torturados o asesinados en el edificio. Es muy interesante y para no hacerlo aburrido, lo han mediatizado incluyendo videos, música y efectos de iluminación. Tomar fotos no esta permitido pero encontré la manera de tomar unas pocas...

Going to the basement alone was the scariest part, they put me in a dark elevator facing a big screen. On the screen a guy started telling how he executed and tortured people down there, when the doors open, you enter the cells and interrogation rooms. I was scared but mostly sad cause I couldnt help but thinking that real people died in those cells (there were portraits like those shown in the picture). The House of Terror aint the cheapest museum in Budapest but its worth visiting. I left the building feeling really bad, thank god it was sunny cause I really needed some happiness/ Ir al sótano sola fue la parte que mas me dio miedo, me pusieron en un ascensor oscuro enfrentando una pantalla grande. En la pantalla un tipo empieza a contar cómo ejecutaba y torturaba a la gente allí abajo, cuando las puertas se abren, entras a las celdas y a las salas de interrogación. Tenia miedo, pero mas que eso me sentí triste porque no podía evitar pensar en que gente de verdad murió en esas celdas (habían retratos como esos que se ven en la foto). La casa del Terror no es el museo mas barato de Budapest pero vale la pena verlo. Deje el edificio sintiéndome muy mal, menos mal que estaba soleado porque en realidad necesitaba un poco de felicidad. 

Next day; Széchenyi, one of the most famous thermal baths and spas on the Pest side. It was established in 1881 in massive and beautiful yellow building within a park. It was a nice experience and I spent the day with Emmanuelle from CS, not in the pics, and a spanish group of friends from Leuven. Taking pictures is not an easy task with everythng around being wet but I managed to take a few shots. The bath receives its thermal water from the 2nd St. Stephan’s Well and they set pools with different temperatures. I have a very sensitive nose and at the beginning it was very difficult for me to bear with the smell of eggs gone bad :s but i adjusted pretty quickly and going outside was really nice, it was very sunny...oh, and I also got into the saunas!/ Al día siguiente: Széchenyi, uno de los baños termales y spa mas famosos en el lado Pest. Fue establecido en el año 1881 en un edificio gigante y bonito de color amarillo dentro de un parque. Fue una experiencia agradable y pase el día con Emmanuelle de CS, qe no esta en las fotos, y un grupo de amigos españoles de Lovaina. Tomar fotos no es fácil cuando todo alrededor esta mojado pero logre tomar algunas. El baño recibe sus aguas termales del pozo de la calle numero 2, San Esteban y hicieron piscinas con diferentes temperaturas. Tengo una nariz bastante sensible  y al principio fue muy difícil para mi soportar el olor a huevo podrido pero salir fue mucho mejor y estaba soleado...ah, y también fui a los saunas!

I went to this wine shop/vinoteka where you can do some wine tasting that used to be a chapel. Tiny but cute and nice staff. It is called the Borkápolna/Fui a una tienda de vino o vinoteka donde se puede hacer cata de vinos que fue anteriormente una capilla. Pequeñita pero bonita. Se llama la Borkápolna.

The ruin pubs is a must see in Budapest. I went to Instant, Art-Bar-Wood. Such a fascinating decor and really good atmosphere. It is a huge old building like others in its kind, turned into artistic drinking spots that resemble squats with a mix and match of furniture and music genres. This kind of bars are trendy in Budapest, but this bar in specific surprises you at every turn. The "backyard" courtyard is like a beer garden with various staircases leading to a labyrinth of rooms, some tiny, others large enough to contain other bars. Strange and beautiful art adorns some of the spaces ./ Algo que se debe hacer en Budapest es ir a los ruin pubs o bares en ruinas. Fui al Instant. La decoración es increíble y tiene buen ambiente. Es un edificio viejo gigante como los otros de su tipo. que se transformo en un punto para tomar con onda artística que se parece a las casas okupa con las mezcla de muebles y géneros musicales. Este tipo de bar están de moda en Budapest, pero este en especifico te sorprende a cada minuto. El patio es como un jardín para beber cervezas con varias escaleras que te llevan a un laberinto de cuartos, algunos pequeños y otros lo suficientemente grandes como para tener su propia barra adentro- Arte extraño pero también bonito adorna la mayoria de los espacios.

Next day: Budapest Jazz Club. Free concerts, nice crowd. It´s a more adult kind of place and very fancy./ Al día siguiente: Budapest Jazz Club con conciertos gratis y gente chevere. Es más adulto y muy fancy.

My train to Bratislava. It was very difficult to get a ticket and people didnt know where the trains to Bratislava depart from. It was very complicated to buy a ticket cause people dont speak English at the station but I made it. 20euros for a return ticket is not bad at all if you consider that I was crossing borders.

My next post will be about Bratislava.../ Mi tren a Bratislava. Fue difícil comprar un ticket y la gente no sabia de donde salían los trenes. Fue muy complicado porque la gente no hablaba ingles pero lo logre. pague 20 euros por un ticket ida y vuelta, que no esta nada mal si se considera que cruce fronteras. Mi próximo post sera sobre Bratislava...

Buda & Pest

We got two weeks off from school (easter holidays) so I decided to grab my passport and fly to Budapest, Hungary. I was attracted by the idea of seeing how far they were from their communist past so I did some reading before leaving. Hungary is nowadays trying to move on from that past and at the same time, catching up with the western European lifestyle but they keep true to themselves and their culture. As a tourist I noticed people are very different from let´s say people in Belgium and you get the feeling that you are indeed in Eastern Europe. The city has these old shabby sight along with new, modern views. It´s difficult to explain.../Nos dieron dos semanas de descanso de la escuela (vacaciones de Semana Santa), así que decidí tomar mi pasaporte y viajar a Budapest, Hungría. Me atrajo la idea de ver qué tan lejos están de su pasado comunista Así que hice una lectura breve antes de partir. Actualmente Hungría está tratando de avanzar de ese pasado y al mismo tiempo, ponerse al día con el de estilo de vida de Europa occidental pero Siguen siendo fieles a sí mismos y a su cultura. Como turista noté que la gente es muy diferente de, digamos, la gente en Bélgica y se tiene la sensación de estar en de verdad en Europa del Estey. La ciudad tiene vistas viejas y destartaladas, junto con otros mas nuevos y modernos. Es difícil de explicar ...

For a woman travelling alone, like me, I´d say it´s no the friendliest city of all. When sightseeing in the night I often had second thoughts about safety (some people and some places look dodgy) but people kept telling me that it is a pretty safe city. New generations of hungarians speak English -at least they try - so make sure to ask young people for directions. Older people might give you a cold shoulder / Para una mujer que viaja sola, como yo, diría que no es la ciudad más amigable de todas. Al hacer turismo en la noche a veces tuve dudas sobre la seguridad (algunas personas y algunos lugares se veían poco fiables), pero la gente me decía que es una ciudad bastante segura. Las nuevas generaciones de húngaros hablan Inglés, al menos tratan - así que asegúrense de preguntar  por direcciones a los jóvenes. Las personas mayores podrían tratarlos un poco mal.

Budapest is actually a beautiful city. Buda and Pest are separated by the river so there are bridges with amazing views of the city. I would recommend going, especially if you find a good with Ryanair like I did. It used to be very cheap but not anymore. Although, it is still cheaper than Belgium. Interesting nightlife and a blooming alternative scene and cheap beers and palinska and let´s not forget, cigarrettes are very cheap/ Es en realidad una ciudad hermosa. Buda y Pest están separadas por el río por lo tanto, hay puentes con vistas impresionantes de la ciudad de lado y lado. Yo recomendaría ir, especialmente si encuentran una ganga con Ryanair como hice yo. Budapest solía ser muy barato, pero ya no. Aunque, todavía es más barato que Bélgica. La vida nocturna es bastante alternativa e interesante, cervezas baratas y Palinska y no olvidemos que los cigarrillos son muy baratos.

Finne en la estación de tren This was 2.0 version of the white Venezuelan cheese. Same texture, similar flavour but smokey/ Este queso es la version 2.0 del queso blanco venezolano. La misma textura, sabor similar pero ahumado...

A visit to the THUIS set

My friend Wim is one of the producers of the soap opera THUIS, a show that has been on tv since 1995 and it is broadcasted on Flemish television channel one . After several years the series has grown into one of the most watched television series of Flanders and attracts an average of one million viewers. Wim invited me and Gaston to go to the set and the explained all the process and it was truly fascinating how fast and hard people work to keep the show going / Mi amigo Wim is uno de los productores de la novela THUIS, un show que ha estado en la televisión desde 1995 que se transmite en el canal flamenco de televisión uno. Después de varios años la serie ha crecido hasta convertirse en uno de los programas de televisión mas vistos de Flanders y atrae  a un promedio de un millón de televidentes. Wim nos invito a mi a Gaston a ir al set y nos explicó todo el proceso y es verdadera fascinante ver lo rápido y duro que trabaja la gente involucrada para mantener el show en el aire.

We kept making joking about me looking like "Lynn" and I offered myself as her stunt double / Una de las cosas mas interesantes fue visitar los departamentos de vestuario y de maquillaje...
